Building AIIB: Asia’s new infrastructure development bank and Australia’s strategic role

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was established in 2016 with 57 founding members including Australia. Today, the bank had 109 members. The AIIB has approved 233 projects since 2016 worth US$42 billion.

The President of the AIIB, Mr Jin Liqun, will be visiting Australia in October, and will be delivering a public lecture at the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University. His talk will cover AIIB’s growth, the Bank’s climate and development priorities, and Australia’s influential role in shaping the Bank’s evolution. Before being elected as the Bank’s first President, Mr Jin previously served as Vice President and then Ranking Vice President of the Asian Development Bank and as Alternate Executive Director for China at the World Bank and at the Global Environment Facility.
